| HIPAA Privacy Actions - The Standards for Privacy of Individually Identifiable Health Information establishes, for the first time, a set of national standards for the protection of certain health information. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services issued the Privacy Rule to implement the requirement of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996. The Privacy Rule standards address the use and disclosure of individuals health information called protected health information by organizations subject to the Privacy Rule called covered entities, as well as standards for individuals' privacy rights to understand and control how their health information is used. Within HHS, the Office for Civil Rights has responsibility for implementing and enforcing the Privacy Rule with respect to voluntary compliance activities and civil money penalties. A major goal of the Privacy Rule is to assure that individuals health information is properly protected while allowing the flow of health information needed to provide and promote high quality health care and to protect the public's health and well being. The Rule strikes a balance that permits important uses of information, while protecting the privacy of people who seek care and healing. Given that the health care marketplace is diverse, the Rule is designed to be flexible and comprehensive to cover the variety of uses and disclosures that need to be addressed.

The Accounting for Disclosures Report
Organizations that use Protected Health Information (PHI) are required by HIPAA to provide patients (upon request) a list of disclosures of the patient's PHI. This means that your organization must keep track of these disclosures and be able to compile the necessary information about them into a single report to patients.
Providing this Accounting for Disclosures report can be an onerous manual process that is prone to mistakes.
"HIPAA Track and Comply" makes this easy by keeping a record of disclosures so that you can print the HIPAA required Accounting for Disclosures report with a few mouse clicks when patients request them.
Tracking Patient Requests - Keeping your promises
"HIPAA Track and Comply" will also track the various HIPAA related requests made by patients. In addition to the Accounting for Disclosures report, patients also have the right to request:
*restrictions on how their information can be used and shared;
*amendments to their file;
*to see and copy their records;
*representatives to speak and decide for them on health matters; and
*alternative ways of communicating with you
Upholding these patient rights will be very difficult if you can't keep track of the promises you've made. "HIPAA Track and Comply" will allow you to track these requests and give your staff one place to find a listing and description of all requests so they will not miss critical information when dealing with the patient, his or her family and friends, or others who are seeking information about the patient.
"HIPAA Track and Comply" is a secure web-based computer application that can be used without any special software installation other than a basic Web Browser (like Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator). And it can be securely accessed from a variety of locations.
