The Security Training Deadline has passed – Have Your
Workforce Members Been Trained?

The HIPAA Security Compliance date for covered entities was April 20,
2005. The HIPAA Click and Comply web-based curriculum provides you with the
training you need to get your work force compliant.

provides you with details on purchasing, administering and training your
workforce on HIPAA Privacy and Security. The website has been updated with the
new course sequence to meet the requirements of the HIPAA Security Rule for
awareness training for privacy and security information, policies and
procedures and security officer training.
We extended our $29.95 renewal offer to
current customers from June 1, 2005 until December 31st, 2005. Beginning
January 1, 2006, we have a new License Renewal policy in effect. If you have allowed
your licenses to expire, you will no longer be able to renew all your current
licenses by buying one Single-Seat license. Instead, your Shopping Cart will
show License Renewal products. Administrators can just login and click [User
Maintenance], then scroll down to the [Buy More Licenses or Products] button,
as usual. If your licenses will expire within 90 days
(or have expired), the Shopping Cart will show the usual options for additional
licenses in the top half, and the new License Renewal products in the lower
half. If your licenses are all up to date, buying a License Renewal or any new
licenses will update all your licenses for 1 year after the date that your payment
is received. If your licenses have expired and your status is currently
Inactive, in order to re-Activate your status and allow your users to continue
their training you will need to purchase License Renewals for your previously
purchased seats (and new licenses if additional seats are needed). The default
quantity for License Renewals will match the total of seats you purchased
previously, but if you wish to reduce your total number of seats, you can
choose a smaller License Renewal. Conversely, if you want more seats, you can order
new seats in the top part of the Cart to change your Practice to a larger size.
Any purchase of licenses or renewals will convert any of the old
sequence of courses to the new sequence, which includes the Privacy and Security

Following are excerpts from the Security Final Rule, for your
information.
The HIPAA
Security General Standards 164.306(5)(i) require Covered Entities to
implement a security awareness and training program for all members of its
workforce including students, trainees, practitioners and management.
The HIPAA
Security Administrative Requirements under 164.530 define the requirement for training as such:
(b) (1) Standard: training. A covered entity must
train all members of its workforce on the policies and procedures with respect
to protected health information required by this subpart, as necessary and
appropriate for the members of the workforce to carry out their function within
the covered entity.
(2) Implementation specifications: training. (i) A
covered entity must provide training that meets the requirements of
paragraph (b)(1) of this section, as follows:
(A) To each member of the covered entity's workforce
by no later than the compliance date for the covered entity;
(B) Thereafter, to each new member of the workforce
within a reasonable period of time after the person joins the covered entity’s
workforce; and
(C) To each member of the covered entity’s workforce
whose functions are affected by a material change in the policies or procedures
required by this subpart, within a reasonable period of time after the material
change becomes effective in accordance with paragraph (i) of this section.
(ii) A covered entity must document that the training
as described in paragraph
(b)(2)(i) of this section has been provided, as
required by paragraph (j) of this section.
